1. Timbers join Crew as tournament favorites

Thus far, the Columbus Crew have been the best team in the tournament. However, the Portland Timbers are not far behind.

You may throw in LAFC, even without Carlos Vela, while Toronto FC, Philadelphia and even Orlando have made encouraging starts to their MLS is Back campaigns. But after two games, the Timbers and Crew have stood out.

Whether they’re on a collision course to face each other in the knockout stages is yet to be determined. The Caleb Porter factor is a fun one to think about, certainly, but it’s been enjoyable to watch these two teams impose their style on others and display their elite quality all across the pitch. Both squads have match-winners, individual stars capable of taking over, and an underpinned tactical discipline and definition that is difficult to overcome.

The Timbers finish group play against LAFC which should be a blast. They have already secured qualification for the knockout stages and will win the group with a draw. They are an elite team and ready to challenge for the title once again.
