D.C. United Vs New England Revolution: 3 things to watch for – A huge three points
By Harvey Cruz
1. Difference-makers from off the bench
D.C. United manager Ben Olsen handled the situation wonderfully. Down two goals and one man, he brought on attacking midfielder, Federico Higuain. Since that point, United made their luck count and have a point to show for it.
And for both New England and D.C., games like this may be decided by the men on the bench. Diego Fagundez didn’t play against Montreal and may see his first minutes of the tournament. He is a flair player with creativity off the bench. Teal Bunbury may start and adds physicality in what will be a fun battle against Frederic Brillant and Steve Birnbaum.
For United, Yamil Asad can add a spark on the wing, while Higuain will likely be introduced at some stage, either as a probing creator in a central position or as a controlling midfield player to help recycle possession when holding onto a lead.
It’s a big game in Group C. The Revs can clinch first place and a Round of 16 berth with a win. D.C. United are still in with a shout of clinching with a win, too. And as has been the case with plenty of games throughout the tournament already, those from off the bench could play a deciding factor.
