Philadelphia Union Vs Inter Miami: 3 things we learned – Union make statement
By Alex Windley
2. Are the Philadelphia Union dark horses?
What Tuesday night did tell us was that Jim Curtin’s side has all the tools to make a deep run into the tournament. Although they didn’t play their best soccer, it’s clear that no matter what this side faces, they are able to wriggle their way out of any situation.

Even though they took the early lead, the Union conceded a well-worked counter-attacking goal that saw their midfield cut open by Lewis Morgan. Despite that minor set back, the team persevered and eventually ended up sneaking out a 2-1 win. They also have Brenden Aaronson.
Aaronson is destined to do great things. Not only is a move to Europe on the horizon, but the 19-year-old had 34 touches which saw him complete 82% of his passes and getting the game-winning assist on Kacper Przybylko’s goal. He has promptly become one of the most important players for Philadelphia. It is a true joy to watch him and he is clearly a cut above the MLS level.
With Aaronson in tow, as well as a suffocating high press and young but solid backline, the Union are a well-drilled machine. Do not be surprised if they make a deep run in this tournament.
