4. Andre Blake
A former MLS Goalkeeper of the Year and first overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft comes in at No.4, Andre Blake helped the Philadelphia Union to an opening game victory over New York City FC, keeping a clean sheet in their 1-0 win.
It was the first 9 am kick-off in MLS history, and by the hour mark of the game, the temperature was almost at 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Blake, though, kept his concentration throughout and came up big for the Union at the very end.
He made a fingertip save to deny the Sky Blues’ Brazilian striker Heber, before then stopping Scottish international Gary Mackay-Steven’s shot in the dying minutes of the match. Those saves, seven of which he made in total, were vital as Philadelphia held on for the victory and the three points in their opening game in Group A.
