Real Salt Lake Vs Colorado Rapids: 3 things we learned – RSL roll
By Daniel Garza
1. Usual suspects strike for RSL
Albert Rusnak and Damir Kreilach have been immense for Real Salt Lake in recent seasons. Both players are very reliable when it comes to scoring, especially in this derby match. They have combined for eight goals against the Rapids during their careers with RSL.
Rusnak was a headache again for the Rapids on Sunday. Despite missing a second-half penalty, he still created trouble on the wing and scored the opening goal of the match. Kreilach then scored a goal out of nothing in the second half to secure the points. He was relatively quiet up to that point — his goal was his only shot of the game — but he can make a difference at any point over the course of 90 minutes.
Corey Baird was also dangerous offensively throughout. He had a shot crash off the crossbar in the opening minutes of the match after a delightful run into the box. In the second half, he registered an assist on Kreilach’s strike.
As the tournament goes on, all of these players will be key to Real Salt Lake’s progress. Based on what they displayed on Sunday night, they appear to be in good form, and with these three firing, RSL will be a tough out for any opponent.
