1. Dealing with the Red Bulls

Atlanta United have never won a regular season against the New York Red Bulls. In seven tries, including Saturday night, the Five Stripes are winless with fives losses and two draws. At this point, Atlanta should know what to expect from the Red Bulls. They will press high, play physical, and play fast.

The same old story played out between these rivals. New York began the match with a relentless press, Atlanta looked completely lost, and the Red Bulls capitalized on a major Atlanta defensive lapse just four minutes into the match. Florian Valot secured the opening — and ultimately game-winning — goal after a direct attacking move that parsed open the Atlanta defense.

The Red Bulls always play in the same high-press style and Atlanta always seem to look confused and surprised. Even with significant roster turnover over the last three years, there are enough players still on the roster to know how New York are going to play. And yet they fail to deal with it.

Once again Atlanta looked unprepared to face the Red Bulls. And that is very troubling indeed.
