Recent reports have indicated USMNT goalkeeper Zack Steffen is set to become Manchester City’s backup goalkeeper. Here is the USMNT abroad update.

Zack Steffen appears he will be in the Premier League next season for Manchester City. ESPN reports that Steffen will join the 2018-19 Premier League champions next season as the back-up to Ederson. Current backup goalkeeper Claudio Bravo’s contract will end at the conclusion of this season which leaves the door open for Steffen to join the club.

This will be a big jump for the U.S. Men’s National Team number one. He spent this past season on loan at Fortuna Dusseldorf, who were relegated at the end of the Bundesliga season, but was in and out of the line-up due to several injuries.

Manchester City utilizes Edserson very often as the starting goalkeeper. This season he has played in 31 of their 34 Premier League fixtures and was the starter in six of their seven Champions League fixtures. As a result, Bravo is very seldom in the starting XI with most of his appearances coming in the FA and EFL Cups.

Based on Bravo’s track record, Steffen might not receive the playing time he saw at Dusseldorf but will be joining one of the world’s premier clubs and working with one of the best managers in the world. His experience training with Ederson, who is one of the world’s best goalkeepers, too, will also be beneficial to his development.

Boyd and Pulisic find the back of the net

This week has seen two USMNT players found the back of the net for their respective clubs. Christian Pulisic continued his impressive form since the return of the Premier League. He scored in Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Crystal Palace for his third goal in his last five Premier League appearances.

Tyler Boyd scored the opening goal for Besiktas in their 3-2 win over Kasımpasa. This was the first goal for Boyd in the Super Lig this season.

Josh Sargent and Werder Bremen avoid relegation

At the start of the week, Werder Bremen found themselves in a stalemate with Heidenheim in the Bundesliga relegation playoff. The aggregate was 0-0 entering the second fixture. Josh Sargent started this match and played 88 minutes, leaving just before the wild finish. Bremen ended up advancing on away goals as it finished 2-2. Both teams exchanged goals in second-half stoppage time, securing Bremen’s place in the top division.

This result confirms that Sargent will spend another season in the Bundesliga. It will be exciting to see what he can do next season for the club as they look to finish higher up the table in the 2019-20 campaign. He finishes the season with four goals and four assists in 28 Bundesliga appearances.
