1. Sky Blue a Courage contender?

Currently, Sky Blue FC sit in second place behind the North Carolina Courage. With their win, North Carolina officially clinched the first-overall seed, as many expected they would going into this tournament. The battle now is for teams to position themselves to avoid the Courage in the knockout round as much as possible.

In the second spot, Sky Blue are in the perfect position to do that. If they are able to hold on, they would only see North Carolina if both teams advanced to the final. However, they have the hardest matchup of them all to hold onto that second spot, the Courage themselves in each team’s final match of the preliminary stages.

While it seems nearly impossible for anyone to beat the Courage at present, the Courage could rotate heavily, having already secured the top spot in the standings. Moreover, no one expected Sky Blue to beat Houston, and yet they thoroughly deserved their 2-0 victory here.
