Montreal Impact Vs New England Revoluion: 3 things to watch for
By Daniel Garza
1. Victor Wanyama to make MLS debut?
In one of the surprise transfers of the 2020 MLS season, the Montreal Impact acquired midfielder Victor Wanyama from Tottenham Hotspur. The recent arrival has yet to make an appearance in MLS but that could change in this match.
His first official appearance for the club came in the CONCACAF Champions League quarter-final against Olimpia. This was the last competitive match the Impact played before the postponement of the season. It’s hard to believe but his last appearance before that match was against Bayern Munich in the Champions League in December. From one continental Champions League to another.
His presence in the midfield will definitely give the Impact a boost. There will be no shortage of opportunities for him to get minutes and every club will need to utilize their roster to the fullest. Wanyama’s arrival gives Thierry Henry and the Impact an edge. His career in MLS is just beginning, and how he factors into Henry’s 3-5-2 formation will be interesting.
Against Olimpia, Wanyama was heavily involved, even recording his first assist. With such involvement, it will be interesting to see if he can take the Impact to a higher level in midfield. He certainly has the caliber, but will his body allow it?
