2019 was a disappointing year by New York Red Bulls standards, but they are still playing above most of the teams in MLS. Longtime Red Bull Luis Robles was sent down to expansion side Inter Miami, while NYRB signed David Jensen from Dutch side Utrecht.

The Red Bulls also had a large overhaul of their defensive core from last season, including losing Connor Lade, Michael Murillo, and Kemar Lawrence, but young Kyle Duncan has stepped up after being handed action with the first team.

People can expect more of the same from NYRB in the MLS is Back Tournament: high-level consistency. Of course, whether or not they can make it over that final hurdle is still up in the air.
