1. A new big three in Houston

This offseason, the Houston Dash lost two of its top four goalscorers when Kealia Watt went to the Chicago Red Stars and Sofia Huerta went to OL Reign. Add key departures to an already questionable offense and there was reason to be skeptical about any sort of success in the Challenge Cup. Enter Shea Groom.

Groom was acquired through a trade with OL Reign. The Dash received Groom along with defender Megan Oyster and a conditional 2022 draft pick in exchange for Sofia Huerta and Amber Brooks. In her only two games with the Dash, Groom has contributed two goals and one assist, linking up with Kristie Mewis and Rachel Daly especially well. All three have combined for five goals and three assists across the two games thus far.

In 2019 with Reign, Groom finished the year with only two goals and no assists. Of course, this could be a case of a small sample size and Groom hitting a purple patch. But for now, she looks like she will be a force along with her two new teammates, Mewis and Daly.

The Dash have come out of the gates firing, and the play between Daly, Mewis and Groom has been a vital part of that success.
