1. Los Angeles FC

Los Angeles FC may have been placed in the group of death, with Group F averaging more regular-season points than any other group in the tournament and including three playoff teams, including rivals, the LA Galaxy, and 2018 MLS Cup finalists, the Portland Timbers, but for a team that is this complete, that does not matter.

In 2019, LAFC produced the greatest season in MLS history. They may have faltered in the postseason, but the regular season is a much more accurate barometer of a team’s true competency. And in that regard, LAFC utterly dominated. They also have not slowed down much over the offseason.

They beat Club Leon, the best team in Liga MX over the past two years, in the CONCACAF Champions League, and looked imperious against Inter Miami in the season-opener. Carlos Vela is still Carlos Vela, if he goes to the tournament that is, while the midfield and goalkeeper positions were only strengthened over the winter.

It is impossible to list the best team in MLS as anything but the favourites. And right now, LAFC are unquestionably the best team in the division.
