2011: Andrew Wenger

Former Duke Blue Devil Andrew Wenger was the 2011 winner of the MAC Hermann Trophy. He went on to become the first overall pick in the 2012 MLS Draft after being selected by the Montreal Impact.

Wenger went on to play seven seasons in MLS before retiring after the 2018 season. He helped the Impact win the 2013 Canadian Championship and was a member of the Houston Dynamo’s 2018 U.S. Open Cup-winning team.

He ended his career with 23 goals in 181 regular-season appearances. Wenger scored at least one goal in every MLS season he played in.

2012 and 2013: Patrick Mullins

One of only three players to ever win the MAC Hermann Trophy twice, Patrick Mullins had a very distinguished career at Maryland where he excelled as a striker. This led to an 11th overall selection in the 2014 MLS Draft by the New England Revolution.

Mullins has gone on to play for five different MLS clubs and currently plays for Toronto FC. As a striker, he’s been able to score at least one goal in every MLS season he has played in. In total, he has 41 goals in 172 appearances in all competitions during his professional career.

Primarily used as a substitute, Mullins has provided depth across the attacking positions. After contributing to Toronto’s MLS Cup run in 2019, the 28-year-old is still in search of his first MLS title.

2014: Leo Stolz

Former UCLA Bruin Leo Stolz was a very effective attacking midfielder during his NCAA playing days. Stolz scored 20 goals in 63 career appearances at UCLA. After winning the MAC Hermann Trophy in 2014, the New York Red Bulls drafted the German midfielder in 2015.

Stolz’s career was a short one with the Red Bulls as he only played one season with the New York Red Bulls II. He was released from his contract following the 2015 season and has not played since.
