A recent move by PSG opens the door for an Edison Cavani move to MLS. He would be welcomed with open arms by the league — and Inter Miami in particular.
Inter Miami and David Beckham want to make a splash. Throughout their preparations for their first season in Major League Soccer, they have been linked to several high-profile players. And now, months into their suspended expansion season, one of them might actually make his way to MLS.
This weekend, Paris Saint-Germain made a big move that could have a knock-on effect and open the door for Inter Miami to sign one of their reported longstanding targets.

PSG signed Mauro Icardi on a permanent deal following his year-long loan at the Parc des Princes. It will keep him with the club until 2024. PSG will be very happy as they will have Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Icardi leading the attack. And it seems like one guy is the odd man out.
Edison Cavani has been a staple in Paris. He has been with the club for seven years and has been a regular starter in that time. Prior to this season, he averaged 31 Ligue 1 appearances per season and 22.3 goals. Seeing him leave to go elsewhere would be bittersweet.
But a departure seems like the most likely case. Cavani has been linked to teams all over the world including Inter Miami. In fact, last summer it seemed that he had even signed a deal with the team, becoming their first Designated Player when his contract with PSG expires. That never transpired, but it shows the closeness of club and player.
If Cavani was to move Stateside, it would be a massive coup for MLS. He is another huge European name to show off. Now, this deal wouldn’t exactly help the retirement league image as Cavani is 33, but given the clubs Cavani is being linked to, if he decided to come to the United States, it would only raise the reputation of the league.
It would be interesting to see how Cavani would do in the league. He would certainly not struggle with the more physical and athletic style of play. Even at his age, Cavani is renowned for his physical presence and deceptive speed. He is a proven goalscorer, too, and those instincts do not disappear overnight.
If Cavani were to join, Miami’s attack would be rather impressive. Putting him alongside players like Matias Pellegrini, and Rodolfo Pizzaro would immediately form one of the most dangerous attacks in the entire league.
We will just have to wait and see whether Cavani will make a move to MLS. But he certainly seems to be on the way out of Paris and the league — and Inter Miami in particular — would welcome him with open arms.
