1. The Players’ Association statement

The NWSLPA released a statement following the news. The documents obtained by The Athletic stated that 53% of the players said they were unconcerned or neutral about returning while the rest answered concerned or very concerned.

However, those who expressed concern about returning outlined what they requested to feel better about a return. Those requests include guaranteed salaries, housing and health insurance until the end of the season. All of those requests were met as announced in the players’ association statement.

Returning to play in any form raises a lot of questions from players as they – obviously – want to be in the safest environment possible while training and playing matches. The statement from the NWSLPA looks to be a sign that the players’ association and the league stayed in contact throughout this process and were able to negotiate a system that both sides were happy with.

Keeping all involved with this competition safe is the top priority. It seems as though the league and players have come to a satisfactory agreement. For the NWSL, that is very exciting news indeed.
