Alexi Lalas has suggested that Inter Miami would be the best fit for Gareth Bale. The Real Madrid star could be sensational with the expansion team.
Gareth Bale in Major League Soccer? It sounds like a fanciful dream that will never come to pass. But it might be closer to reality than you think. The Welsh star commented on the growth of the league last week, revealing that he would be interested in one day making the switch across the pond.
“I really like the league,” Bale told The Hat-Trick podcast. “It’s grown so much over the years. When we come over and play now in pre-season, the games are difficult. The standard is a lot better. All the clubs are improving, the facilities are improving, the stadiums are improving.

“It’s a league that’s on the up and still rising, and I think a lot more players want to come over to America now to play. I’d definitely be interested in it. I love going to Los Angeles on holiday.”
Bale has endured a turbulent period at Real Madrid. He raised a banner saying ‘Wales. Gold. Madrid. In that order’ while on international duty with Wales and has slipped out of favour amid a slew of injuries. He was on the verge of moving to China last summer before the deal fell through at the final stage.
But now it seems as though an MLS switch could be on the cards, though his substantial wage on a contract that still has two years to run will be a stumbling block for any team looking to invest. Because of this, Alexi Lalas named Inter Miami CF as the best landing spot for Bale in MLS.
“While I’m a little bit making fun of the golf part of it, we know that it’s a huge, huge part of his life,” Lalas said on his State of the Union podcast. “He loves to golf, and the ability to make a good chunk of money in a place that certainly he and his family would be very happy, and for him to be able to train and then play golf on a daily basis, I think that would be incredibly attractive to him.”
Lalas jokes that Bale loves golf, hot weather, the glitz and glamour of life in Miami, and would relish playing for a team that could feasibly come close to matching his Madrid wages. But from a football perspective, it is a salivating prospect.
I wrote earlier this week that any MLS club making a move for Bale would be extremely risky. He will be 31 in the summer, has suffered severe and extensive injuries, especially muscular problems, which is troubling for a player who relies on his speed, and he will not come cheap. But the ceiling of the signing is truly astronomical.
When fit, Bale is one of the best players in world football. He brings terrifying power and athleticism. He is a goalscorer, a creator, a flying winger who can sear past defenders with ease. And he is proven at the highest level, in the Premier League, La Liga, and in the Champions League. Throw in his commercial value as the face of a new franchise and the potential of such a signing is enormous.
Can Inter Miami deny the sensational potential of introducing Bale alongside Rodolfo Pizarro and opposite of Matias Pellegrini? It would be difficult to ignore and it could have sensational results.
