1. Simon Elliott

The man who takes the top spot on our list of the best ever Oceanic players to feature in MLS played for the Los Angeles Galaxy, Columbus Crew, San Jose Earthquakes and Chivas USA.

Simon Elliott joined the LA Galaxy in 1999 and immediately became a fan favourite. He was named the club’s Most Valuable Player a year later as he helped the side become just the second side from MLS to win the CONCACAF Champions Cup. The Galaxy remain the most recent winners of the continental tournament to hail from the United States.

The Galaxy continued their winning ways in 2001, lifting the U.S. Open Cup before then dominating in 2002 as they took home both the Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup titles, with Elliott playing the entirety of the MLS Cup final.

After a further season in Los Angeles, Elliot signed for the Columbus Crew ahead of the 2004 campaign. The Crew immediately enjoyed success, winning the Supporters’ Shield for the first time in their history.

Elliott then had a two-year spell with Premier League side Fulham before returning to the United States with San Jose Earthquakes. He also played for Chivas USA at the end of his career, becoming the only Oceanic player to reach 200 regular-season appearances. He finished his career with 220 matches under his belt with 11 goals and 56 assists.
