The only Australian to make our list of the top five Oceanic players to play in MLS is former New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill, who comes in at number three.

More from MLS Multiplex

Cahill joined the New York Red Bulls following the conclusion of the 2011-12 Premier League season. He made an instant impact on MLS, scoring and assisting several times in his first twelve games in the latter part of the 2012 campaign.

The Australian midfielder moved to the LA Galaxy went on to break records in 2013, scoring the fastest-ever goal in MLS history, scoring just eight seconds into a regular-season clash with the Houston Dynamo. The Red Bulls won the Supporters’ Shield that year and he went on to be named into the MLS Best XI that season after scoring 11 times and assisting on five other goals in 27 appearances in 2013.

Cahill was then nominated to the MLS All-Star side a year later, playing the opening 45 minutes of the All-Star game against Bayern Munich. The Aussie left the Red Bulls following the end of the 2014 campaign, having scored 14 goals and assisting 10 others in 62 regular-season appearances for the club.
