MLS: Top 5 Brazilian players in league history
By Matt Coles
4. Felipe
Next up is D.C. United midfielder Felipe. After spending his youth days in Brazil, Felipe made the move to MLS prior to the beginning of the 2012 campaign. He signed for the Montreal Impact and was an immediate hit, leading the club in assists in his first season in the league with ten. His first taste of silverware came a year later as the Impact lifted the Canadian Championship title. Thanks to a goal from the Brazilian in the second leg of the final a year later, Montreal retained their crown in 2014.
The Brazilian was traded to the New York Red Bulls ahead of the new season and he went on to play 100 regular-season games for the club, including helping them to lift the Supporters’ Shield in his first year with the team.
Felipe has since spent a couple of campaigns with the Vancouver Whitecaps and now currently resides in the capital, playing for D.C. United. The Brazilian now has over 250 regular-season appearances in the league across his spells at four teams, with 24 goals and 49 assists in that time.
