2. Christian Gomez

Just missing out on the top spot on our list of the best Argentinians to ever feature in MLS is former D.C. United and Colorado Rapids midfielder Christian Gomez. He signed for D.C. United in 2004. After scoring four goals in nine regular-season matches for the club at the back-end of the 2004 campaign, he became a huge influence in the side going onto win the MLS Cup that year.

The 2006 campaign was Gomez’s best from an individual perspective. Scoring 14 goals and assisting 11 others, he took the MLS MVP award, becoming the first Argentinian to ever be the league’s best player throughout an individual campaign.

Gomez also featured in the MLS Best XI three years running, from 2005 to 2007, along with being nominated to the All-Star game in those three years as well. He moved to Colorado for the 2008 campaign, before re-joining D.C. ahead of the 2009 term, which would be his last in MLS. He left the league with 48 goals and 39 assists in 144 regular-season matches.
