USMNT: Top 3 wingers for 2022 World Cup qualifying
1. Christian Pulisic
It was never going to be anyone else. Christian Pulisic is the only American player to be a genuine elite-level player on the world stage. He cost north of $70 million a little over a year ago, is hoped to be Chelsea’s replacement for Eden Hazard, and has shown plenty of promise in his first season in the Premier League.
Internationally, he has been the star of the show since he was a teenager. Still not 22, he already has 34 caps and 14 goals. Barring a catastrophe, he will break both the USMNT caps and goals record, which stand at 164 and 57 respectively.
Pulisic is so key to Berhalter’s system that the head coach has used him in a variety of positions just to get him on the ball as much as possible. Pulisic is a winger by trade but Berhalter moved him into the middle to exploit his superior offensive quality. That plan, however, was quickly abandoned and Pulisic returned to what he is best at: beating defenders in one-on-ones.
He is already the greatest American player of all time. And he is just getting started.
