1. Carlos Vela

Perhaps unsurprisingly, coming in at number one is Los Angeles FC star, Carlos Vela.

Vela signed for the 2018 expansion side as their first-ever Designated Player. It turned out to be a great move, both for the team and for Vela himself, as the Mexican forward. He has gone on to become the best player who currently stars in the American top-flight.

After scoring 14 goals and assisting 13 others in his debut term in the league, Vela exploded in 2019, breaking the single-season goalscoring record with some ease. A hat-trick on the final day of the season saw him smash Josef Martinez’s record of 31 goals. The Mexican ended the season with 34 goals and15 assists in just 31 games.

That year, the club went on to take the Supporters’ Shield title with the most points ever collected in a single season. Along with the record, Vela took home the Golden Boot and MLS MVP awards in 2019.
