MLS: Top 5 Mexican players in league history
By Matt Coles
2. Victor Ulloa
Coming in at number two on MLS Multiplex’s list of the best-ever Mexican players to ply their trade in MLS is the longest-serving, Victor Ulloa. Born in Chihuahua, Mexico, Ulloa moved with his family to Texas as a child. He spent the entirety of his youth career at FC Dallas. After making his professional debut for the club in 2011, he had to wait another two years before he played for the side again.
Nevertheless, he was welcomed back into the fold in 2014 and Ulloa made the defensive midfield position his own. He patrolled their midfield for the next five seasons, playing nearly 150 regular-season matches for the club.
The 2016 season was the club’s best during that time. FC Dallas won the U.S. Open Cup and the Supporters’ Shield as well. Ulloa played through to the end of the 2018 season with the Texan side before being traded to expansion side FC Cincinnati for their inaugural term in the league.
He scored once and assisted two other goals in 2019, but come the end of the season, he saw himself traded again. He made the move to Inter Miami CF, another expansion side, and he started the season as a key part of their midfield before the suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A true modern MLS legend, Ulloa currently has 180 appearances in the league, including three playoff runs with FC Dallas.
