1. Reggie Cannon

There is another reason why DeAndre Yedlin does not sit atop this list — at almost any other position in the team, a mid-level Premier League player would be the best option available. Reggie Cannon is emerging, and while his only senior experience comes in MLS thus far, his future is extremely bright.

The FC Dallas product turns 22 in June. He already has 11 caps to his name. He started three of the final four matches in the Gold Cup. All in all, he started seven of the final 11 USMNT games in 2019, all coming at right-back. During that run, he recorded two assists.

At club level, Cannon has been a full-time starter for Dallas since 2018. He played over 2,000 minutes in his age-20 and age-21 campaigns and played all 180 minutes of his now age-22 campaign prior to the coronavirus-enforced suspension. He is a first-team player who is only just beginning to realise his potential, and he has said extensively in recent years, he will be testing his talents in Europe very shortly.

Bar Dest, Cannon is the highest-performing right-back in the squad. And like Dest, he also has room to grow and time to develop. Competition is high and any drop off in performance will see other usurp him, but for now, the FC Dallas man is Berhalter’s right-back best option.
