4. Robert Warzycha
Robert Warzycha comes in at number four after spending seven years as a player in MLS, before then embarking on an 11-year coaching career in the league. The Pole signed for Columbus Crew in 1996 and spent seven seasons with the club. After being part of the league’s inaugural season, he went on to play 160 regular-season matches for the Crew, scoring 19 times. Warzycha was part of the Columbus team that lifted the MLS Cup in 2002, his final season in MLS. He also finished as the club’s all-time leader in assists.
Warzycha went on to become the Crew’s assistant coach over six years, working under Greg Andrulis and Sigi Schmid, before taking over the managerial role after the latter departed the club.
Having been part of the Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup-winning managerial team in 2008 as an assistant, the Pole then led the side to the Supporters’ Shield as manager in 2009. He stayed with the side through to the end of the 2013 campaign, when his five years in charge of the team came to an end. In total, Warzycha spent 18 years of his life with Columbus Crew, a true servant to the club and to MLS in general.
