3. Anibal Godoy

Anibal Godoy was definitely a risky signing. The last two seasons at San Jose were far from spectacular. He was used less regularly, struggled with injury in 2018, and wouldn’t shy away from giving up a penalty or two. So for Nashville to sign him as a 30-year-old was bold.

Nevertheless, through the first two games though, he has been more influential than almost any match in 2019. In both outings, he was less than afraid to get forward and actually have a shot on target. He looked fit enough to play in the box-to-box role, which could not be said last year, and he provided energy and impetus to the Nashville midfield.

At San Jose, he looked much more comfortable sitting deep and passing horizontally. But at Nashville, he has played more like a traditional number eight, someone who can play both sides of the ball, and play them well. It is a rare sight in MLS.
