2. Andrea Pirlo

The don of Italian football, Andrea Pirlo, comes home at number two on MLS Multiplex’s list of the top five Italians to ever play in Major League Soccer following his two and a half years with New York City FC.

Pirlo joined New York City FC in the summer of 2015. He assisted five goals in 13 games in his debut campaign in the league as one of the club’s Designated Players. Pirlo then became an influential part of their midfield in the 2016 season, scoring once and assisting 11 other goals, before an injury-hit third term in the Big Apple.

The Italian eventually finished his MLS — and his distinguished professional career — following the 2017 season. He played 62 matches in total for the Sky Blues, with a goal and 18 assists to his name. Forever one of the greats of the Italian game.
