USMNT: 3 reasons why Tyler Adams can be special
Tyler Adams is one of the most talented young American players in history. Here are three reasons why the USMNT star can be special.
Much is made of the blossoming potential of Christian Pulisic. The U.S. Men’s National Team star broke onto the scene at Borussia Dortmund, a club famous for its development of young players, transferred to Chelsea in a $73 million, and, when fit, is an effective starter for one of the best teams in the world. No American has ever reached the level he currently presides at.
But he is not the only special USMNT prospect in the world right now. He might be the leading light for the golden generation, but there are others. One such example is midfielder Tyler Adams, who is also playing regularly in a top-five European league for a team renowned for its youth development. He too could be special.
Here are three reasons why.
3. He is playing regularly
Tyler Adams was sensational at the New York Red Bulls. Estasblishing himself as one of the premier midfielders in the entire league as just a teenager, in heart of Jesse Marsch’s all-energy system, his athletic profile and technical skill came to the fore. Then he made the huge decision to move to Europe, staying with the Red Bulls franchise in Leipzig.
He immediately felt at home:
"“I hit the ground running. The players, the coaches, they all gave me the confidence to go do what I like to do. To come in and play in as many games as I did right away, that wasn’t expected. To make the impact I did was nice, because then everyone knew what I was capable of.”"
And for good reason. He has played regularly throughout his time in Leipzig, which is an important aspect of youth development. Adams has missed the majority of this season through injury, but for the five league games he was available, he started all five. He also made his Champions League debut. This comes after making 10 starts in the half-season prior, again starting almost every league game that he was available for. Adams is at home and starting, and that is important.
