Jungwirth moved to MLS, signing for the San Jose Earthquakes, in 2017. The German has gone on to play over 90 times for the ‘Quakes across his three years at the club.
He instantly became a key part of the club’s back line, settling into a centre-half role, while also being deployed in defensive midfield when required. Jungwirth helped the club into the postseason in his first term thanks to two goals and three assists at the other end of the pitch.
He managed to improve on that in 2018, with three goals and four assists in 31 regular-season games, and although he failed to get his name on the scoresheet last term, the German was superb for a bright and revolutionary Earthquakes team under new head coach Matias Almeyda.
