MLS: Top 5 Designated Player groups
2. Los Angeles FC
Los Angeles FC have the best front three in MLS. A large reason for that is Carlos Vela, who in and of himself is more threatening than some entire teams in the league. But Diego Rossi plays an excellent foil to the Mexican, with 28 goals and 14 assists over the last two full seasons. In any other team, Rossi would be the star man.
Instead, at LAFC, it is Vela. He was named MLS MVP last season as he broke the single-season goalscoring record with 34 incredible strikes. He also added 10 assists, which makes his campaign the best individual season in league history. He has started this season in exactly the same vein, scoring two from two.
The only let down of this LAFC triumvirate is Brian Rodriguez. He has played in 842 minutes for LAFC across all competitions. He has no goals and one assist. At just 19, there is plenty of time, and he has touches and moments in matches which illustrate that he is capable of much more, but at present, he lags a long way behind his DP teammates.
