3. Sebastien Le Toux

Until this season, Sebastien Le Toux held the record for the longest MLS career for a Frenchman. He may have lost that record, but the midfielder does still have the record for most appearances.

In early 2007, Le Toux made the move Stateside, signing for Seattle Sounders in the USL First Division. After the club had been granted expansion status to Major League Soccer, Le Toux became their first signing ahead of the inaugural campaign in the top flight in 2009. He scored once and assisted three goals in 28 appearances in what was his only season with Seattle in MLS.

Le Toux was taken by the Philadelphia Union in the 2009 MLS Expansion Draft ahead of their first campaign in the league in 2010. He went on to become arguably the club’s greatest ever player across two spells. In his first spell, the Frenchman scored 25 times and provide 20 assists in 62 appearances, including playing all 3,060 minutes of regular-season action in his second season with the club.

After brief spells with the Vancouver Whitecaps and the New York Red Bulls in 2012, Le Toux returned to Philadelphia for the 2013 campaign, but he was unable to recapture the form from his first spell.

He went on to play for the club for another four seasons, before time with the Colorado Rapids and D.C. United, prior to his retirement after the 2017 campaign. Le Toux finished his MLS career with 59 goals and 57 assists from 263 appearances and was the league’s first member of the coveted 50/50 club.
