In the summer of 2014, after being released by West Bromwich Albion, Ridgewell made the move to Portland, signing for the Timbers. He would go on to make the city his home for the next four and a half years.
He featured 110 times for the Timbers in that spell and was the club’s captain as they lifted the 2015 MLS Cup, beating the Columbus Crew 2-1 in the final at Providence Park. That was his best season with the side. He played 37 times, with a goal and an assist to his name, spending over 3,400 minutes on the field of play.
Ridgewell was also part of the side that made it to the MLS Cup final in 2018, but they fell short of a second title in four seasons, losing out to Atlanta United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Following that defeat, the Englishman and the Timbers parted ways, with Ridgewell returning home, signing for Hull City.
