Winston Reid: Sporting Kansas City, Center Back, 76 rated: Overrated

Winston Reid is also in a tie for the highest-rated MLS defender. He is a good pickup by Sporting Kansas City, albeit on loan, as long as he can stay healthy. When healthy he has been a rock at the back for West Ham United and similarly reliable for the New Zealand national team.

Fitness, though, has been a huge ‘if’ these last two Premier League seasons, in which Reid made zero appearances. A player who has been sidelined for this long shouldn’t be one rating lower than RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano or share a rating with Aston Villa’s Bjorn Engels or Ajax’s Edson Alvarez.

From an MLS perspective, I don’t think Reid should share a rating with Yeimar Gomez Andrade (Sounders) or Giancarlo Gonzalez (LA Galaxy) and players like 75 rated Aaron Long (New York Red Bulls) should be higher too. I would give Winston Reid a 74 rating.
