MLS: Best XI from opening two weeks of 2020 season

Midfield
Khiry Shelton – Sporting Kansas City – 8.65/10
The first member of the MLS Bext XI midfield quartet is a man who has recently returned to the league following a stint in Europe, joining Sporting Kansas City for the second time in his career.
Having left SKC after the 2018 campaign to join SC Paderborn in Germany, Khiry Shelton returned to the side for the 2020 campaign. He has already made his mark, scoring once and assisting another in his first two games.

Jan Gregus – Minnesota United – 8.53/10
The second Loon to make the team is central midfielder Jan Gregus, who has been a key part of the club’s attacking threat since his move to Minnesota in 2019.
He has started this term the way he ended the last with a goal and two assists in the club’s opening two matches. In part thanks to the Slovakian, Minnesota United are one of just four teams to have won both of their opening two games to start off the 2020 season.
Florian Valot – New York Red Bulls – 8.22/10
The second member of the New York Red Bulls in the best XI after two rounds of MLS fixtures is French winger Florian Valot. Having suffered season-ending ACL injuries in both 2018 and 2019, the Frenchman came into this season looking to get off to a good start, and he has done just that, with two assists in the club’s first two matches.
After suffering those injuries in the last two campaigns, Valot will be looking to ensure that the same does not happen again in 2020, if and when the season continues.
Alejandro Pozuelo – Toronto FC – 7.89/10
The last piece of the midfield puzzle in the Best XI is Toronto’s star number 10, Alejandro Pozuelo, who became one of their most influential players over the course of last term.
As is the level of quality in this line-up, Pozuelo is the only member of the front seven who has not averaged out at least an 8/10 rating over the opening two games of the season.
Nevertheless, the Spaniard has scored once in the first two games for the 2017 MLS Cup champions as he looks to go even better than his twelve-goal, twelve-assist campaign last time around.
