3. August 9, 2012: Sporting KC 1-1 Seattle Sounders – Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final

A memorable night in the Sporting KC’s history was made even more special after a 45-minute weather delay that produced a fine picture of a double-rainbow. The 2012 U.S. Open Cup was the club’s first-ever trophy under the name Sporting Kansas City. Peter Vermes’ men defeated the Seattle Sounders on penalties after Eddie Johnson skied his penalty in front of the Cauldron. Kei Kamara converted his penalty in normal time as well as in the shootout.

2. November 23, 2013: Sporting KC 2-1 Houston Dynamo – Eastern Conference Championship

After an early goal from the Dynamo, CJ Sapong equalized to even the score 1-1 at half-time. Dom Dwyer then the winner after Benny Feilhaber sent a delightful waste-high chipped pass to find the English-born forward, who supplied the clinical finish to put SKC into the MLS Cup Final. Dwyer’s goal against the Dynamo was the most important of his career.

1. December 7, 2013: Sporting KC 1-1 Real Salt Lake – MLS Cup Final

The club’s second-ever MLS Cup required a penalty shootout to defeat Real Salt Lake. It was yet another wonderful attacking display from center-half Aurelien Collin, who headed the crucial equalizer past Nick Rimando before scoring the most impressive penalty of the shootout. This match didn’t bring the greatest technical abilities on an icy pitch, but it was certainly a memory for all SKC fans to remember.
