Rookie of the Year

With many rookies not yet making their debuts throughout MLS, the Rookie of the Year award is another difficult one to judge. However, there is one rookie that has already scored for their respective MLS team, the only rookie to do so so far this season.

Toronto FC’s Ifunanyachi Achara was superb against New York City FC. Achara had a dream debut, actually scoring twice, though his first strike was overturned by VAR for offside. He slotted into the Toronto starting XI for his full league debut and was an instant boost of energy to TFC’s attack and pressure on NYCFC’s backline.

He has only played one game, which is a definite slight on him, but he was named Man of the Match as he scored the only goal of the game. Not many players make their debut out of the SuperDraft with that kind of performance.
