Goalkeeper of the Year
The Goalkeeper of the Year award is another difficult award to judge. With so few games, it’s tough to differentiate between the many starting goalkeepers throughout the league and, due to the small sample size, it is easy to fall into the trap of one or two great saves.
So, to help with this analysis, here is a statistical approach to the award: of all the goalkeepers in MLS who have played both games, Sean Johnson has the highest save percentage, second-most shots faced and most saves in MLS this season.
It is frankly embarrassing that NYCFC hasn’t won a game this season with how well Johnson has played this season. They have yet to score a goal and are being dragged along by the performances of their goalkeeper. As a result, Johnson is MLS Multiplex’s Goalkeeper of the Year.
