MLS: Top 3 teams ecstatic with start of season
1. Sporting KC
There was a degree of hope that Sporting Kansas City could make quite the bounceback in 2020. They were never as deplorable as their 2019 results suggested, they would still return the majority of the players that has formed one of the most dominant teams in MLS in recent years, and Peter Vermes was still the head coach.
Plus, they finally splashed the cash. Alan Pulido arrived as the top goalscorer in Liga MX. His transfer fee cost more than every other transfer fee the team has ever paid combined. Yadi Kinda also arrived on loan to bolster the central midfield, while the likes of Johnny Russell, Matt Besler, Roger Espinoza and Ilie Sanchez and others have all returned.
The early signs are tremendously positive. Two wins from two, seven goals, of which Pulido and Kinda have two each, sitting pretty at the top of the Supporters’ Shield standings with a +7 goal difference.
Sporting KC have been the best team in MLS to date. And for that, they should be very happy indeed.
