USMNT: Top 3 players to build future upon
1. Christian Pulisic
Was it really going to be anyone else? Christian Pulisic may still only be 21 years of age and not quite a regular at Chelsea after dealing with his own injury problems, but the winger is already the most talented and highest-achieving American footballer in the history of the sport.
He has 14 goals in 34 international performances, is valued at $73 million, more than any other American player in history by a country mile, has five goals and two assists in the Premier League this season, and has shown plenty of signs that he can yet adapt to and flourish within Frank Lampard’s system at Chelsea. He has also been the key cog for Gregg Berhalter over the past year, the USMNT head coach even moving Pulisic centrally to get him on the ball as frequently as possible.
With blossoming central midfield options emerging and Pulisic’s obvious natural fit to a wide role, it is expected that he will continue as a winger for Berhalter, but the goalscoring burden will certainly be placed on his broad shoulders. Pulisic is the best player in the squad by some distance. Those inspirational individual moments that every team requires from their stars must come from him.
No one in the talent pool is capable of what Pulisic is capable of. Even at 21, he is a crucial piece of the team, and that will continue for the remainder of his career.
