2. Glenses with a stunner

‘It looks like he is lining up for a shot here… He is going for it…’ That was the commentary moments prior to Jakob Glenses’ outrageous free-kick.

More from MLS Multiplex

When Glenses stepped up to take the free-kick from 40 yards out, no one expected to see what happened next. The Norwegian defender rocketed a shot past Kenneth Vermeer to score a sure bet for one of the goals of the season. His goal silenced the crowd at Banc of California Stadium and gave the Union their second lead of the match from absolutely nowhere.

The ferocity of the strike was such that even with no wall to shield the ball and with Vermeer having the sightline for the entire shot, nothing could be done to prevent the ball arrowing into the top corner.

It might only be the second week of the season but it is going to be very hard to top this goal. Surely, Glesnes was not the first choice for many when it came to predicting a player capable of such a shot.
