Chicago Fire Vs New England Revolution: 3 things we learned – Honors even
By Adnan Bašić
1. Giminez shines on his debut
One of the Chicago Fire’s new Designated Players was able to make his club debut in New England. Gaston Gimenez came off the bench at the hour mark and immediately proved why he was a major investment in the offseason.
Few were expecting him to feature as he had only landed in Chicago a few days ago and only practiced once with the team before flying out to the Northeast. However, the Argentine never looked out of place on the field and is seemingly already match fit.
In his 30 minutes on the field, Gimenez showed why his signing is such a big deal. Coming in to play as a central defensive midfielder, he immediately started getting involved. Constantly on the ball, he knew when to dribble forward and when to find a teammate with a pass. His ability to distribute was really on show, spraying some impressive long balls to instigate Fire attacks. One of those long-range passes led to the equalizer. Gimenez picked out Djordje Mihailovic, who then crossed it to Jonathan Bornstein to head home from inside the area.
His future in Chicago is very bright. Fire fans should be excited to see what Gimenez can do once he gets fully acclimated to life in the Windy City.
