Atlanta United vs. FC Cincinnati

Any other week, Atlanta United against FC Cincinnati would be a foregone conclusion, with the Five Stripes expected to take the win comfortably, but this time, it’s different. Their main man, Josef Martinez, suffered a torn ACL in their season-opener and is expected to miss the majority, if not all, of the 2020 regular-season campaign. That is a huge blow for Atlanta. The Venezuelan has been their main source of goals for the last three years and might be the single most influential player in all of MLS.

The Five Stripes still come into this contest as the favourites, largely thanks to their strength in depth, and they currently sit in second in the Eastern Conference after their victory over Nashville SC, but given that this is their first match without Martinez, anything is up for grabs.

FC Cincinnati may not have taken any points from their match on the opening weekend, but they pushed the New York Red Bulls all the way in a 3-2 defeat. They showed progress in the second half, something they will need more of if they are to make sure they do not finish at the basement of the table again this campaign.
