The second weekend of MLS action is almost upon us, but which matches should you prioritise for your viewing over the next few days?

The opening weekend of the 2020 Major League Soccer regular season threw up a lot of questions. Are some teams able to push for the playoffs this year? Can others play as they did on the opening weekend all season? And will the title challengers from last season remain so this season? Week 2 in the 2020 MLS season will help provide a little more context to these questions.

The reigning champion Seattle Sounders host the Columbus Crew in one of the matches of the slate, while the three newest sides in MLS all face tricky away games. Then there is an Eastern Conference heavyweight clash and some excellent contests involving LAFC and Philadelphia and San Jose and Minnesota.

Toronto FC vs. New York City FC

The first match of our five to watch this week features the MLS Cup finalists form last November, Toronto FC, and the side that topped the Eastern Conference, New York City FC. This will be a re-match of the Eastern Conference Final, which saw TFC take a 2-1 victory in New York.

Over the last three years, the sides have met seven times, with the Canadian team winning three of those. NYCFC have two victories in that time. Along with the Conference Final win in October, Toronto’s other two victories over the Sky Blues have seen them score four times. Alejandro Pozuelo scored twice in their 4-0 win last March, while Sebastian Giovinco bagged a brace in another 4-0 win in 2017.

NYCFC are coming into this clash without Maxime Chanot, one of their starting centre-halves. The defender was sent off inside three minutes in their season-opener against Columbus. Can Toronto continue their form over New York City FC and take a fourth win in eight clashes on Saturday or will the Sky Blues get their first points on the board in 2020?
