1. Seattle Sounders vs. Chicago Fire

The number one match to watch on the opening weekend of the tournament features the reigning MLS Cup champions, the Seattle Sounders, as they host the Chicago Fire on Sunday afternoon.

The Sounders went all the way in 2019, making it two titles in the last four seasons, following on from their victorious campaign in 2016. They come into the 2020 campaign as one of the favourites to retain their title, and if they were to do so, they would become the first side since the LA Galaxy in 2013 to defend their MLS Cup title.

The Fire, meanwhile, have endured a tumultuous offseason. They have revamped the entire squad, conducted a wide-reaching rebrand that has largely been ridiculed ever since, and are now under new ownership. Chicago are coming into the 2020 season off the back of a rebuilding year and are set to remain in transition once again.

Their opener against the Seattle Sounders will be a solid test to see exactly where they are at ahead of the 2020 season. Meanwhile, the Sounders are looking to establish themselves as the top dog once again.
