Attack
Brian Rodriguez – 5
A few missed chances from Brian Rodriguez appeared to weigh on him during this match. He did not play with the same level of confidence he has displayed in other appearances. His production is worrying, especially considering the quality attack that he is a part of. He has talent, undoubtedly, and will put in some fabulous displays when everything clicks, but that consistent end-product is not there yet.
Carlos Vela – Man of the Match – 9
It was a Man of the Match performance from Carlos Vela. The LAFC goalscorer’s brace was the difference in this fixture. His lethal finishing was on full display and he helped lead the club to a memorable win. If LAFC were to upset Leon in such staggering fashion, their talisman was always going to have to be at the heart of it. And, thankfully for the Black and Gold, he delivered.
Diego Rossi – 8
Diego Rossi’s goal was ultimately the most important of the match, even if it took a deflection and was a cross that floated up and over the goalkeeper. Ultimately, it sent LAFC to the quarter-finals. But his all-around play was so much more influential than just his goal. Playing through the middle, he held up play well, released runners with clever flicks around the corner, beat defenders with ease, and tormented the Leon defense as he showed them the ball before shimmying around them and releasing yet another LAFC attack. Of all the LAFC players, Rossi was the most consistent in both legs.
Adrien Perez – 6
Just like in the opening fixture, Adrien Perez entered as a substitute in the second half. He had a late chance to score but could not take advantage. Perez will have to wait for another opportunity to get his first goal of the 2020 season.
