It was always going to be a tough ask for Los Angeles FC to go Club Leon and come away with an opening leg victory. The club’s first competitive match of 2020 was against one of Liga MX’s top sides in the CONCACAF Champions League, a competition that an MLS team is still yet to win.

Bob Bradley’s new-look squad lined up with a few new faces and veterans in hopes of getting a positive result on the road. What transpired was not the start to the season LAFC wanted. They to Leon in a consummate 2-0 defeat in which they were roundly outplayed.

Goalkeeper

Kenneth Vermeer – 5

The start of the Kenneth Vermeer era began on Tuesday night. An experienced player, Vermeer should have been one of the players to turn to for a great performance. Unlike most of his teammates, the Dutch goalkeeper has been actively playing since the start of the European season in August. It certainly showed during this match as he was one of the better players on the pitch. There was not a whole lot he could do about both goals scored by Leon. One blemish on his performance was his distribution. It was not quite there at times which did not do LAFC any favors.
