3. Mixed squad beats Pumas U-20s 2-1

After being sent off in the senior team game, Danny Leyva also started against the Pumas U-20s. The lineup was a mixture of first-team, Tacoma Defiance and academy players. What stood out first was the inclusion of Shane O’Neil and Joevin Jones. Considering the understandable concerns surrounding the defense prior to preseason, this is a good sign that there is now quality depth along the backline.

The Seattle Sounders won the game 2-1, with Handwalla Bwana undoubtedly the star after scoring the opening goal and setting up the winner. The midfielder has impressed throughout preseason playing in a forward position, which again speaks to the versatility and quality depth the club has entering the new campaign.

As a final note, Alex Roldan was given another opportunity to prove himself after having his contract option declined at the conclusion of the 2019 season. His future in Seattle is uncertain, but a lot of people will be wishing the best to a young player who does have some potential.
