2020 Outlook

The Colorado Rapids started their preseason campaign on January 29, exactly a month prior to the start of the 2020 Major League Soccer regular season. Their preseason activities include seven fixtures, five of those coming against MLS opposition, while they also faced Cal State Fullerton Titans and Orange County SC in their opening two matches.

Colorado begin their regular season on February 29 with a trip to D.C. United. Their home opener comes on March 7 against Orlando City SC. For the majority of the campaign, the side will not have any long home or road combos, with just the one three-match stretch at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in late August when they will face Real Salt Lake, Minnesota United and Sporting Kansas City.

This comes before a four-match run that could see them advance to the postseason for only the second time in seven seasons. Colorado will face MLS new-boys Nashville SC and five-time MLS Cup winners LA Galaxy on the road before a home clash against the current MLS Cup champions, Seattle Sounders and closing out the season with a trip to San Jose in what could be a clash to see who takes one of the last playoff spots in the West.

The club will also feature in the U.S. Open Cup, a competition where they have not reached the final in over 20 years.

It would be very surprising if there was some silverware coming back to Colorado in 2020, but the opportunity is there for a postseason berth. There have been some good additions and they will be expecting to make that leap back into the playoffs this time around.
