2020 Outlook

Toronto FC have a six-match preseason slate ahead of the start of the 2020 regular season, with fixtures against the Colorado Rapids, both Los Angeles teams and the Chicago Fire among others.

Toronto will begin their MLS campaign on February 29 with a road trip to San Jose. Their home-opener comes seven days later against New York City FC. They then face MLS new-boys Nashville SC in their third league game of the season. By the end of April, they will have faced both New York sides, along with the second expansion side in MLS, Inter Miami CF.

The club’s fixtures against Canadian opposition are spread out. They have a home game against the Vancouver Whitecaps on May 2, before two games against Montreal later in the campaign. They host the Impact on June 13, before travelling to their Canadian rivals on August 22.

Toronto’s run-in follows that clash with Montreal with games against two of the last six MLS Cup winners in Atlanta United and Portland Timbers. The club will also have to play the Houston Dynamo, Orlando City and the New York Red Bulls, with the road game at Red Bull Arena coming on the final day of the 2020 regular-season.

Along with the league, TFC will also feature in the Canadian Championship where they will face either Master’s FA or York9 over two legs in July. Thanks to finishing in the top six in the league last season, Toronto will also play in the Leagues Cup in 2020 where they will face a Liga MX side at BMO Field in the summer. That will be a Round of 16 clash in the second edition of the now-annual tournament.

TFC will be aiming to take home some silverware once again in 2020, having won an unprecedented treble just three seasons ago. 2019 was close, but ultimately, Gregg Vanney’s side came home with no cigar. That will not be accepted for a second year in a row.
