1. Can the Impact win without Piatti?

Ignacio Piatti may be the best player to ever suit up for the Montreal Impact. The Argentine winger scored over 15 goals in three consecutive seasons before sitting out most of the 2019 season with injuries. But with news recently breaking that Piatti would be returning to Argentina to rejoin his former club San Lorenzo, the question must now be asked: Can Montreal win without their star player?

Losing Piatti will be a major blow. Scoring goals has been a major issue with him on the sidelines. However, the Impact’s deepest position has been on the wings and they have heavily invested in the position over the last few seasons. Saphir Taider, Romell Quioto and even Bojan can man the wings in Piatti’s absence.

Piatti’s departure also brings new opportunity. It opens up a new Designated Player slot that can be used to invest in a new position within the club. While Piatti will be irreplaceable on and off the field in Montreal, there is still some hope that the club will be able to compete in the CCL, even without his name on the teamsheet.

There are still many questions for this Montreal side as they enter the first leg of CCL play, but with the Montreal Impact set to take on Saprissa on February 19th, these questions must be answered sooner than later.
